Does your accent need improvement?
If your second language is English, you may have heard about "accent training," but aren't sure what it is, or whether you (or someone you know) may benefit from it. To learn more, take this brief self assessment.
1. Are you often asked to repeat yourself?
2. Do others sometimes give you a “blank look” when you speak?
3. Do you find telephone communication to be especially difficult?
4. Are you sometimes interrupted by people who seem impatient with you for no apparent reason?
6. Do you feel that that listeners occasionally become distracted, or lose focus, when you are speaking?
8. Do people seem to be more focused on your “exotic” way of speaking than on the content of what you are saying?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the issue could be the way you pronounce words; that is, your accent. (For more information, please go to the page called "Accent 2).
